Next week some very noisy work will begin on the Jacques Cartier Bridge and last for the next year.

Starting on June 1, crews will reinforce the metal support beams and girders of the entire bridge.

This work will largely take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, but some work will take place overnight and on weekends.

The work is expected to be extremely noisy during its entire duration, but several steps will be taken in an attempt to minimize the noise.

Construction crews will hang acoustic barriers around the bridge, and will use special noise-reducing heavy machinery.

A third-party firm will also analyze ambient noise levels during the course of the work.

The work is taking place under the bridge between the waterfront and an area halfway between René Levesque Blvd. and De Maisonneuve Blvd.

In addition to this, the Jacques Cartier Bridge will be closed on several nights for the next few weeks as crews work on support pillars and traffic signs.

The bridge will be closed starting at 11:30 p.m. the nights of Monday May 30, Tuesday May 31, Monday June 6 and Tuesday June 7.

If weather causes delays, work will take place the following night.

In each case the bridge will reopen early the next morning.
