MONTREAL—A 34-year-old woman was killed in a car crash in the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean on Friday afternoon as she travelled with her four children on Route 169 near Chambord.

Local police are investigating, but early reports indicate that a driver lost control of their pickup truck and crossed into oncoming traffic where they struck the minivan being driven by the woman. The man suffered only minor injuries.

The mother was declared dead at an area hospital. The woman’s husband was riding in the car with the couple’s four children, aged 10 to 18. All suffered minor injuries.

The jaws-of-life were needed to help rescue the people in both vehicles.

The Surete du Quebec dispatched a team to investigate the crash on Friday evening. According to SQ spokesman Ronald McInnis, road conditions were good at the time of the incident.
