Fans of the newest president of the United States in Montreal spent his inauguration admiring Donald Trump's success.

Carl-Olivier Rouleau watched the proceedings from his desk.

"I think he'll give a breath of fresh air to the machine that's been getting pretty much cluttered for the last 8 years," said the lawyer.

He was hoping for a larger viewing party, but some of his friends went to Washington D.C. for the event, and nobody else in his office is a fan.

"They get ostracized," sad Rouleau.

Students at McGill University also watched the inauguration.

David Cavey, Adam Wilson, and Jessica Lyver said they are progressive conservatives, but not really fans of Trump.

They were watching the change in leadership of the United States because it was a historic day.

"Trump has said a lot of things in his campaign but we don't know what's going to actually come out of it," said Cavey.

Wilson said they expect change for the better.

"I think that's one of the reasons Trump was elected, because people didn't want to keep going with the way things were."

Lyver said many Americans were not helped by Barack Obama's presidency.

"I do believe a number of people have been left behind in the Obama administration, that they can at least receive some benefits from this presidency," she said.

Knowing the end result will take several years, but people are ready to keep watching the man who defied expectations.
