It took half a day to put out a fire at the Kruger Recycling Centre on Notre Dame St. West.

The fire started Sunday morning at the back of the warehouse, where bundles of paper and cardboard are stacked before being recycled.

The two-alarm fire created a lot of smoke that could be seen for many kilometres.

60 firefighters were on the scene using ladder trucks to fight the flames, and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to any buildings. They also had to bring in a bulldozer to plow through the bales of paper products to help put out the fire.

Nobody was hurt, and the fire was finally extinguished after about 12 hours.

The fire was started accidentally.
