A man was shot in the parking lot of a Sûreté du Québec station in Vaudreuil-Dorion Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m., when SQ officers tried to pull over a car they said was reported stolen, said SQ spokesperson Ingrid Asselin.

Asselin said the driver refused to stop, and police chased the driver who eventually came to a stop in the parking lot of the SQ station at Harwood Blvd.

The 26-year-old man exited the car and aimed at police with what appeared to be a firearm, said Asselin. Shots were exchanged.

Eyewitness Arman Moradi said he said he was working nearby when he heard five or six shots and then yelling.

“That’s when I bolted to see what was going on,” he said. “He was trying to get out. He had his door open and he was shooting at the cops, they were shooting back.”

Moradi claims the man walked toward police as he was firing and he witnessed them shoot him three times in the abdomen. The man fell “instantaneously,” he said.

The suspect was injured and taken to hospital. His injuries are not life threatening.

None of the officers in the chase or the shooting were injured.

Moradi said there was a woman in the car who was arrested, but police have so far no confirmed that information.

Quebec's new independent investigation bureau (BEI) will investigate the shooting. The BEI’s mission is to investigate in all cases where a person is injured by a firearm used by a police officer during an intervention.

Montreal police are also on scene of the shooting to assist in the investigation.
