A 32-year-old cyclist has died following a crash on the Jacques Cartier Bridge.

The man was cycling on the westbound side of the bike path around 4 p.m. Monday when, according to witnesses, he became distracted and rode into a pole.

Those witnesses called 9-1-1 and the cyclist was taken to hospital with severe head injuries.

He spent several hours in critical condition before dying overnight.

Police say he was a 32-year-old man from Sainte Catherine, on the South Shore.
