One man is in hospital after being shot in what appears to be an assassination attempt.

Around 10:45 a.m. Monday a man was shot while in the parking lot of the Wilderton strip mall, near Van Horne Ave. and Wilderton Ave. in Cote des Neiges.

The victim was able to run into the mall's food court in search of help, yelling for someone to call 9-1-1.

Young Rok Oh, owner of Sushi Q restaurant, tried to stop the man's bleeding.

"I brought the kitchen towel to try and stop the bleeding. I gave him the kitchen towel so he could stop (bleeding), to make it," he said.

He was still conscious when paramedics arrived and rushed him to hospital. The victim is in stable condition with upper body injuries.

Police quickly cordoned off the area and began scouring for clues, witnesses, and the gunman.

Police spoke with witnesses in the mall to gather more information. Investigators will also meet with the victim to try and determine what happened.
