Captain Kirk beamed into Montreal City Hall Saturday to sign the city's official Golden Guest Book.

William Shatner, who was born and raised in NDG, said the city changes every time he returns.

"It's been a long time since I grew up in Montreal, but that doesn't matter because every time I come back to Montreal things are changing."

"I was downtown this morning and there's more construction going on than there is to go to the moon," said Shatner.

The actor is famous for his portrayal of James T. Kirk, captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, in the original Star Trek TV series from the 1960s and multiple movies.

When asked, Shatner credited his health at age 85 to being from Montreal.

"First you have to come from Montreal, then you have to go to McGill or the University of Montreal," he quipped.

"It's Montreal vegetables, les viandes de Montreal, and you have to grow up in NDG. Then you look like me."

Another star signing the guest book at City Hall may not be as well known by sight, but is distinctly recognizable when he opens his mouth.

Peter Cullen is best known for providing the voice of Optimus Prime in The Transformers cartoon TV series and the live-action movies.

But before he got into cartoons, the Montreal-born actor frequently teamed up with Ted Zeigler, aka Johnny Jellybean, for sitcoms filmed at CFCF-12 and other comic appearances

"Being back in Montreal brings a lot of memories, but this will be the greatest . And for that, thank you mayor, thank you Montreal. I love ya," said Cullen.

Other guests officially invited by Mayor Denis Coderre -- who is a self-described sci-fi and comic book geek -- included former hip hop icon turned comic book publisher Darryl "DMC" McDaniels (from the band Run DMC), Brent Spiner (Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation), Michael Ironside (Scanners, Total Recall, Starship Troopers) and Elias Toufexis.

Toufexis grew up in Montreal and has appeared in multiple television series, but also portrays the lead character, Adam Jensen, in the Deus Ex video games.

Manu Bennett (The Shannara Chronicles, The Hobbit movies) of New Zealand made a point of greeting the Mohawk Nation, and holding a special breath-sharing ceremony with Coderre.

All are in Montreal for Comiccon, the science-fiction and fantasy festival taking place this weekend at Palais des Congres.
