The Montreal Canadiens have returned rookie defenceman Mikhail Sergachev to the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League.

Sergachev, selected ninth overall by Montreal at the NHL draft in June, has played in just three games this season and has been a scratch for the last five as Montreal has surged into top spot in the league.

He had no points and was a plus-1 in limited ice time with Montreal.

"The plan was to keep him a month and evaluate after that," Montreal coach Michel Therrien said. He needs to go play. It's going to be great for him."

Sergachev had 17 goals and 40 assists in 67 games for Windsor last season.
