Aleksandra Wozniak’s time on court at the 2014 U.S. Open lasted just 59 minutes, as the suburban Montrealer - one of a record seven Canadians at this year's tournament - lost to Kurumi Nara of Japan 6-2, 6-1.
The 97th world-ranked Wozniak had trouble with her serve, getting only 20 of 37 first tries against Nara, ranked 31. She also hit 28 unforced errors against 10 for Nara.
Nara broke Wozniak’s serve six times and served at 72 percent.
Toronto’s Sharon Fichman was also dispatched quickly, losing 6-1, 6-0 by fourth seeded Agnieszka Radwanska in just 47 minutes.
Francoise Abanda is slated to play on court 13 against Sabine Lisicki Monday afternoon.
Milos Raonic, seeded fifth in the competition, is scheduled to play Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel in the afternoon.
Vasek Pospisil also goes up against Italian Simone Bolelli.
Seventh seeded Eugenie Bouchard and Frank Dancevic will play Tuesday.
