If the rain and freezing rain weren't enough, a water main broke on Leon Derome St. near Langelier Blvd. Thursday morning.

The pipe burst around 1:30 a.m., sending torrents of water into the street, into driveways, and eventually into at least six houses.

Firefighters were the first to arrive, and used hoses and pumps to remove the water from basements.

City crews later showed up at the location and were able to turn off the water flow to the neighbourhood.

The water was shut off and most of the water removed from basements by 3:30 a.m.

It's not known when the city will be able to clear the water and ice off the street and repair the broken pipe.
