Dozens of residents inundated the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough meeting Tuesday night, demanding a response from the borough over flooding at L'Acadie Circle.

The circle, which was rebuilt in 2004 at a cost of $110 million, has seen countless floods, problematic to homes and businesses in the New Bordeaux district.

"It's about $25,000 to have the whole basement redone," said resident Jack Zeitounian, who lost his honeymoon pictures and collectibles in a flood.

Louis Lapointe of public works told residents a plan is in place, including more sewer inspections, a study into building a retention basin.

Borough councillors told residents to install backwater valves to protect themselves, as well as to expect more floods due to temperature changes and rising water levels.

The explanation didn't satisfy one resident.

"We pay our taxes, about $5,000 each year and we just get a sermon on how the weather is changing? Come on!"

Resident Voula Dilaveris said her basement was flooded four times in a year, and beyond the inconvenience was the heath risk.

"It is clear it's very hazardous and there are a lot of bacteria (in my basement). Especially when you have loved ones living downstairs - you have to evacuate them," she said.
