QUEBEC CITY - If you could fire your MNA, would you?
Voters in British Columbia have a unique tool called the Recall Act, where residents can force a member of the legislature to step down with enough signatures.
On Thursday, Quebec MNA Eric Caire introduced a similar bill, arguing voters in Quebec need more power.
The independent MNA for the riding of La Peltrie said voters could start with Tony Tomassi, the disgraced ex-minister who has been absent from the national assembly since being fired by the premier.
"This is not a job you do if you happen to feel like it on a given morning," Caire told CTV Montreal's Kai Nagata.
Tomassi wasn't available for comment on camera, but said he will be back at the national assembly when the time is right.
In the meantime, Tomassi said he continues to work with constituents in Lafontaine, his riding in northeast Montreal.
But the bill isn't likely to be enacted any time soon; it will likely die on the order paper as soon as Charest prorogues parliament.
