Gilles Vaillancourt has stepped down from his role on the Quebec Union of Municipalities after being pressured by Westmount mayor Peter Trent.
However the mayor, who is under investigation by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs after being accused of offering envelopes of cash to Serge Menard and Vincent Auclair, still sits on the board of directors for Hydro Quebec.
This is greatly upsetting the Parti Quebecois who feel that Hydro's international reputation is at stake.
While the Liberal party agrees that Hydro's reputation must be protected, they are not yet ready to dismiss him.
"I hope that he thinks strongly about his responsibilities," said Deputy Premier Nathalie Normandeau.
In addition to sitting on the board, Vaillancourt sits on the Human Resources and Pension Plan management committees for Hydro Quebec.
