Police made nine arrests, Thursday, in connection with the firebombings of some Italian cafés.

Five people, including a minor, were charged at the Montreal Courthouse.

Between last September and January, 18 businesses in eastern and northern Montreal were the target of criminal fires.

Police say the incidents may have been the result of a street gang taking on part of the Italian mafia over territory.

Those arrested face a number of charges, including arson and armed robbery.
