One of two teenagers charged with the first-degree murder of three people in Trois Rivieres appeared in court on Tuesday morning for an arraignment.

The court ordered the two boys not to communicate with each other for the duration of their trial.

The 17-year-old boys, who cannot be identified, were arrested moments after leaving a home on February 11 where two sisters and a 17-year-old boy were killed.

Each of the accused is charged with the murders, as well as conspiracy to kill several police officers and the mother of two of the victims.

The Crown is asking that the teenagers be sentenced as adults if convicted, which comes with an automatic sentence of 25 years without parole.

Youths convicted of first-degree murder are eligible for parole after serving ten years in prison.

Police in Trois Rivieres have said they believe one of the accused was jealous of the long-term relationship between the male victim and one of the sisters.

The accused will be back in court on March 11 for a bail hearing.
