This is National nursing week, and Paul Plaisir, a hepatology nurse at the Jewish General hospital, discussed his work with Paul Karwatsky.

Plaisir said he often works with patients who have Hepatitis C, a disease that is the leading cause of liver transplants in Canada, that can lie dormant for decades.

"People can live 20 years and more without knowing that," said Plaisir. "You could catch it various ways, like a blood transfusion and blood to blood contact, using, sharing razors or personal tools with others."

One patient was sick for 50 years after getting a transfusion in the 1950s.
