The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that Vancouver's safe injection site can continue to operate in the Canadian neighbourhood that has been a magnet for drug addicts for decades.
Now activists in Montreal are calling for the same system to be established here.
Jean-Sebastien Fallu researchers drug addiction and substance abuse at Universite de Montreal, and says it would be a good idea.
"Prevent does not bring the results we want," said Fallu. "Hardcore addicts don't respond to treatment."
"Reseach has shown that these people, if they can go to a supervised site to inject, it reduces crime, HIV, Hepatitis C and deaths."
