The National Assembly has begun studying Health Minister Yves Bolduc's spending estimates, and the opposition is looking not only at how much initiatives cost, but how they are implemented.
Healthcare spending will cost $28 billion this year, 45 per cent of the provincial budget.
The Parti Quebec claims that Bolduc's department has created longer waits for everything from emergency treatment to Montreal two superhospitals: the McGill hospital and the Universite de Montreal hospital.
"They are late, they are more expensive than expected and for which there is a crucial lack of money," said Bernard Drainville, PQ MNA for Marie-Victorin, of the two projects.
The federal government has promised $100 million for each hospital project, but only the McGill superhospital has been accepted, said Bolduc.
The ADQ's gripe was with duplication of services between the ministry and all regional health department, explained ADQ leader Gerald Deltell.
"We could save $600 million in this bureaucracy. Instead they decided to pick money from the pockets of the people," he said.
