ST. JOHN'S, N.L - Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams says his province won't tolerate illegal activity by Quebec Innu in Labrador.

Williams says statements made this week by Innu officials, combined with what he calls the illegal hunt of the Red Wine caribou herd in Labrador, are completely unacceptable.

Real MacKenzie, a Quebec Innu chief, suggested recently that Innu in that province could resort to civil disobedience over a recent deal with Labrador's Innu Nation over development of the Lower Churchill.

Williams says any threats to economic development in the province will not be taken lightly.

He says the province "will use any legal resources to ensure that violent and illegal activities are addressed head on."

The province recently demanded that Quebec Innu stop hunting the protected Red Wine herd in Labrador.
