Patients at the Montreal Children's Hospital settled in to their new digs at the MUHC's Glen site Sunday after a smooth morning move.
Officials confirmed at 11:25 a.m. that the MUHC had moved 66 patients total from the old hospital at 2300 Tupper St. to the new Glen site. The move took a total of three hours and 57 minutes.
The goal was to transfer one child every three minutes, with one parent accompanying each child until they reach their destination. Once they arrived, patients settled in to one of 154 rooms at the Glen site with treats including a new blanket and teddy bear. One patient remarked on how comfortable the new beds are. There were no reports of problems.
Star patients Loic, 11, and Jouri, 6, managed to make the move by Medicar, and with smiles on their faces, as seen in this video tracking their transfers.
The new Children's Hospital ER is also now open.
Dr. Harley Eisman, Medical Director of the Pediatric Emergency Service was pleased with the successful move.
In a statement released by the MUHC, he said, “Countless hours have been put into making today a success and it truly paid off."
“Our patients and families are always at the forefront of everything we do and I am certain they will be very happy in this new home of ours,” he said.
“We have been dreaming, planning and preparing for this moment for many years and we are very excited to begin this new chapter in our lives," added Associate Director General
Martine Alfonso in the statement.
