By all accounts a very successful cleanup operation took place this weekend in the Richelieu Valley.

More than 1,000 volunteers arrived in flooded towns all along the Richelieu River to remove sandbags and clear away debris.

Lots of work still has to be done, and another cleanup operation is scheduled for next weekend.

Before then officials will meet to discuss where to best place the thousands of volunteers expected to help out.

Provincial public security minister Robert Dutil says the province has pegged the cost of repairing damage caused by the flood at more than $40 million.

While water levels may rise slightly on Monday because of Sunday's heavy rain, the overall water levels are expected to drop considerably by next weekend.
