MONTREAL - An overnight freight accident disrupted Via Rail train passenger service along the Montreal-Ottawa-Toronto line Thursday morning.

The delays were expected to last through the day, but at about 7:20 a.m. Via Rail tweeted that service would return to norrmal at around 8:30 a.m.

Passengers along the direct Montreal-Toronto line (trains not going through Ottawa) were not affected by the inconvenience.

VIA Rail had organized buses as an alternative to the stalled trains and offered travel credits to affected passengers, who were also permitted to cancel without fee.
