The provincial transport ministry has made travel on the Mercier Bridge more flexible.
Ever since the bridge's outbound span was shut last week, the inbound span has been limited to one way traffic that switches directions every 12 hours.
Starting Monday, that schedule will be loosened to allow people to travel in both direction outside of peak rush hours.
From Monday to Friday, the span will have both of its lanes heading inbound from 5-9 a.m., will change to one lane in both directions from 9:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., then change back to two lanes in the outbound direction from 3-7 p.m., and back to one lane in each direction from 7:45 p.m. to 4:15 a.m.
"Since the partial closure of the Honoré-Mercier Bridge, we are constantly looking for solutions to limit the impact of this closure on users," Transport Minister Sam Hamad said in a statement. "The key words were flexibility and efficiency."
Also, starting Wednesday, the one open span of the Mercier Bridge will be open to heavy vehicles, which have been banned from using the span since Dec. 29.
