Former Parti Quebecois MNA Diane Lemieux will join Mayor Gerald Tremblay and the Union Montreal team in the next election, Tremblay announced Wednesday.
In Lemieux's first foray into municipal politics, she will run in the Ahuntsic district.
"I have a sense of public duty, and Gerald Tremblay is my man, and I prefer his vision. We share the same vision about Montreal. I didn'r make a choice between Louise Harel and Mayor Tremblay, I made a choice for Montreal, and Gerald Tremblay for me is the best way to Montreal," said Lemieux.
As a PQ, Lemieux served as house leader of the official opposition from 2004 to 2007 and was named both Minister of Culture and Communications and the Minister or Labour during her tenure.
Lemieux served the Bourget riding from 1998 to 2007, and has worked since March 2008 as the vice-president of business development for media company Global Vision.
"Diane is a Montrealer who takes to heart the city's development as well as the quality of life of her fellow citizens," said Tremblay in a statement.
Lemieux plans to run in the Ahuntsic district of the Ahunstic-Cartierville borough alongside Union Montreal candidates Franois Purcell, Jocelyn Ann Campbell, Leonardo Fiore and Harout Chitilian.
