MONTREAL - Anton Lander scored 1:47 into overtime to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' second goal of the game tied it with 25 seconds left in regulation time while Edmonton was playing with an extra attacker.

Matt Hendricks also scored for the Oilers (16-31-9), who are 2-2-0 so far on a six-game road trip that takes them to Ottawa on Saturday and Winnipeg on Monday.

Lander banged in the winner from the doorstep, while Nugent-Hopkins took a puck off defenceman Andrei Markov's skate and scored on a spin-around shot from the slot to force the extra period.

Christian Thomas, Alex Galchenyuk and Max Pacioretty scored for Montreal (35-15-4), which ended a three-game winning run.

At 16:25 of the first frame, Jacob de la Rose forced a turnover and Thomas swept in on the left side to wire a shot to the top corner. It was a first NHL goal and point for the son of former star Steve Thomas. De la Rose also got his first career point with an assist.

Coach Michel Therrien was visibly displeased after the game. “We played a really bad game in all aspects; we got lucky to get one point,” he said in a press conference.

A frustrated Dustin Tokarski matched those sentiments. “It sucks. It sucks to lose,” he said.
