For a first world country, this sometimes looks a lot like a third world operation.
Having the old and the sick lining up in the cold for the swine flu shot has been crazy.
This coupon system might help out, but the fact is that some people will still have to go twice.
Some parents will have to go 3 times if they have one child under five and others over five.
I'm not sure why the vaccinations aren't being given in schools. More or less the ground zeroes of any outbreak.
Schools already do a pretty good job with other vaccination programs
And why have family doctors not been involved in the process?
These are legitimate questions that require answers.
People are frustrated. They want the vaccine. They want to protect themselves and their families. There have been too many cases of queue jumping.
Sometimes flu rage is showing the uglier side of humans. Healthy adults have managed to butt in line a little too often. Not everyone can get it first.
As Orwell said "all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others."
That's why teams like the Leafs and the Flames felt entitled to move to the front of the line.
And whoever made that idiotic decision to inoculate some prisoners in Quebec jails should be looking for a new job and maybe a new brain.
Adding to the confusion is each healthcare fiefdom in Quebec has its own rules.
Whenever there is too much government, there are bound to be problems.
Federal government, provincial government, local health boards. Too many levels.
Not everyone is always singing from the same hymn book.
Changing priority lists. Different guidelines.
There is no doubt this is a monumental task.
But they knew it was coming, it seems better planning would have been in order.
Perhaps the vaccine could have been ready sooner. But in fairness, we had to make sure it was safe.
Perhaps the government should have not relied on a single supplier. There are lessons to be learned from this.
But the good news here, and there is good news a higher number of people will get the shot than first thought.
The flu itself still appears to be relatively mild for most people.
More vaccine is on the way and the organization of this will get better.
And no shot, no vaccine, no matter how good, will ever be able to cure the Leafs
I'm Barry Wilson and that is CTV Postscript for this week.
