The Montreal Canadiens have sent defenceman Jarred Tinordi and Stefan Fournier to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for defenceman Victor Bartley and forward John Scott.
It was a three-way trade involving the Nashville Predators – the Coyotes acquired Bartley in a trade with the Preds for Stefan Elliot, then sent Bartley and Scott to the Habs for Tinordi and Fournier. The moves reportedly took weeks to orchestrate.

Bartley is 27, 6’0 tall and weighs 215 lbs (1.8 metres, 98 kilograms). He has spent most of this hockey season in the AHL, registering one assist and 10 penalty minutes in 14 games. He appeared in one game with the Nashville Predators, in October, and registered no goals, assists or shots on goal. He finished the game -1.
"He adds depth to the group of defencemen of our organization. Steady on the blue line, he has shown at the junior and the AHL levels that he can also contribute offensively," Habs GM Marc Bergevin said in a statement.
Scott is a 6'8", 270-pound (two metres, 122 kilograms) enforcer who has played 11 games netting one assist this season with the Coyotes. He was voted captain of the Pacific Division’s all-star team after he was the subject of a social media campaign to get him there.
"He will be bring experience to our group of forwards with the IceCaps in St. John’s," Bergevin said.
Scott was sent down to the Coyotes’ farm team two days ago, and called up Friday ahead of the trade. He and Bartley will report to the St. John's IceCaps.
A first-round draft pick in the 2010 draft, Tinordi was used sparingly this season, appearing in just three games.
"We are fortunate to have a lot of depth on the blue line and for that reason it became difficult for Jarred to earn a regular spot on our roster," said Bergevin.
Fournier spent this season with the John’s IceCaps. The Dorval native has yet to play an NHL game.
