The provincial government is still weighing options to regulate pit bulls and other dangerous dogs.
Public Security Minister Martin Coiteux said over the weekend that a province-wide ban on the dogs is still a possibility.
This comes after a leaked report that an advisory panel does not appear to favor breed-specific legislation.
Since that leak, the province's Order of Veterinarians has had to backtrack for including unverified lobbying material from pit bull owners and breeders in a report it submitted to the panel.
On Monday the president of the Order, Joel Bergeron, admitted the group had using five biased reports in making its recommendation not to ban any specific breed.
Regardless, the Order stands by its recommendation.
The working group is expected to give its report to the province in the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Gaetan Barrette would like to see an outright ban on pit bulls.
"The status quo is unacceptable, as you know I believe. We have an opportunity to do something, the political circumstances are strong, and the government will take action," said Barrette.
Barrette has pointed out several times this summer that he has seen the damage that can be inflicted by a dog, and that anyone who saw firsthand the aftermath of a mauling would not hesitate to act.
