MONTREAL—Police are investigating after a suspicious fire tore through a restaurant in Rivieres-des-Prairies on Wednesday morning. While damage to the building was minor, firefighters found accelerants at the scene.
The fire broke out just after 1:40 a.m. at Shekz Restaurant on Maurice Duplessis Blvd. Empty at the time, the alarm company warned 911 of the incident at the Szechuan restaurant.
While the fire was quickly extinguished, firefighters found three gas cans at the scene. While two of the canisters were deformed by the flames, one is clearly a new five liter can.
Parts of 5th and 6th avenue were closed between Rene-Descartes Ave. and Maurice Duplessis Blvd. as investigators from the police arson squad looked over the crime scene.
