NEW YORK -- Montreal striker Didier Drogba was named Major League Soccer player of the week Tuesday after scoring three goals in his first start with the Impact.

The former Chelsea star scored in the 27th minute Saturday before adding an equalizer in the 61st minute and the game-winner four minutes later in a 4-3 win over the visiting Chicago Fire.

Drogba became the first player in league history to record a hat trick within his first two MLS games.

The Impact will play the Galaxy in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
