It's been quite a week for our profession.
First, there was the whole manufactured controversy over Hal Gill and P.K. Subban, and now we have Mathieu Darche whose season was apparently in jeopardy.
Well, Darche skated with his teammates Saturday morning and hopes to be able to practice Monday for a Tuesday night return against the Buffalo Sabres.
So how's he doing?
"Pretty good for a guy who's season is supposed to be over," Darche said with a sly grin after the morning skate. "It's day to day. It's something that's been dragging on so we decided to pull back a bit. We'll re-evaluate it tomorrow. I'd love to be in Tuesday, but we'll see."
Darche said he's been playing with the injury for close to a month but it got a bit too painful to play with recently, and that is all he told a television personality Thursday night.
That personality took that information, and apparently went on TV to say Darche's season was in jeopardy.
I'm sure it helped the ratings.
That comment was so earth-shattering, it was turned into this print article written by the same news agency that put out the big bombshell on Gill and Subban the other day.
As a journalist, it just makes you feel like taking a shower.
"It's nothing alarming, nothing that's season-threatening," Darche said of his injury. "I didn't say anything. If people read something into a situation, I can't do anything about it. That's the way it is here, some people take things and twist them."
Personally, I only hope the players realize that the most important part of that last statement is the word "some."
