A collision involving a man on a bicycle and two vehicles has left the cyclist dead and four others injured.

The collision occurred around noon on Friday on Route 364 in St. Adolphe d’Howard, a municipality in the Laurentians about 100 kilometres northwest of Montreal.

Police are investigating what may have caused the collision.

According to the SQ, a motorist struck a cyclist, then the vehicle collided with another vehicle.

"He was rolling on the shoulder of the road," said SQ spokesman Gino Pare. "There was a car that was behind that collided with the cyclist. After the collision, the cyclist fell in the ditch."

A nurse who was nearby gave the cyclist first aid, police say. The cyclist, who is reported to be in his 40s, was brought to hospital where he soon died.

Witnesses who knew the man said he lived in Morin Heights and they saw him often on the road collecting cans.
