A Quebec court has given the go-ahead for a class action lawsuit against Montreal's transit corporation, following a strike two years ago that inconvenienced hundreds of thousands of public transit users.
STM maintenance workers went on strike for four days in May 2007. It meant that buses ran only during peak periods -- the morning and afternoon rush hours.
The transit corporation offered bus pass-holders a 5.2 percent discount, but some transit users feel they deserve more compensation.
The class action lawsuit is seeking a partial refund on bus passes, as well as a one time payment that would total $59 per person.
"The STM had offered about $3.50 back, so a big difference there," said CTV's Rob Lurie, reporting live from outside the Papineau metro station.
Only about 20 percent of transit users took the STM up on the offer.
But now that the class action lawsuit has been approved, more people are considering seeking compensation.
"That would be really good. I would be really interested in getting that kind of money back. I'm a student, but I'm still paying a lot for the STM, and anything we could get back would be helpful," said one woman.
