Weekend lane closures on the Champlain Bridge are expected to cause traffic slowdowns throughout the next month.
The $30 million investment will improve the beams, piers and bridge pier caps to replace expansion joints and the median.
The work begins this weekend order to completely replace the expansion joints and will continue on weekends until June 6.
Lanes will be open as follows during construction:
- Friday, May 13 at 11 p.m. - Monday, May 16 at 5 a.m.:
2 lanes open northbound - 1 lane open southbound
- Friday, May 20 at 11 p.m. – Monday, May 23 at 5 a.m.:
1 lane open northbound - 2 lanes open southbound
- Friday, May 27 at 11 p.m. – Monday, May 30 at 5 a.m.:
2 lanes open northbound - 1 lane open southbound
- Friday, June 3 at 11 p.m. – Monday, June 6 at 5 a.m.:
1 lane open northbound - 2 lanes open southbound
- Friday, June 17 at 11 p.m. – Monday, June 20 at 5 a.m.:
Work will continue in the case of rain
The Champlain Bridge will also face weekend closures in August to pave the span.
Throughout the construction period, drivers are being asked to take the Victoria, Jacques-Cartier and Mercier Bridges.
