MONTREAL - The much-delayed work to repave the Champlain Bridge will take place this weekend -- the first in a month without any rain in the forecast.
Starting at 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, only one Montreal-bound lane on the bridge will be open, while two lanes heading to the South Shore will be in service.
On Highway 15 itself, only one lane will be open in either direction between the exits for Atwater and Nun's Island, which is sure to cause lengthy traffic jams for drivers attempting this route.
The lanes that are open will only be 3.3 metres wide, so trucks should find another route to and from the South Shore.
Several ramps leading to Highway 15 South will be closed as well.
The best alternatives will be the Jacques-Cartier or Victoria Bridges.
Montreal's easternmost bridge to the South Shore will have three lanes open in each direction, while the Victoria Bridge will be one lane each way.
Drivers should also avoid the Mercier Bridge, which is still undergoing repair work and will not have all lanes open.
