Multiple lanes on the Champlain Bridge will be closed this weekend, if the weather holds up, and every weekend until the end of September.

Starting at 10 p.m. Friday night, only one southbound lane will be open on the Champlain Bridge until 5 a.m. Monday morning.

Drivers will be allowed to use two of the three northbound lanes.

Detours via Victoria

As an alternative, both lanes on the the Victoria Bridge will be reserved for people driving to the South Shore. The Jacques Cartier Bridge will also alter the flow of its centre lane in accordance with traffic.

If heavy rain is forecast for Sunday, the work on the Champlain Bridge will be cancelled.

Crews are removing and replacing old pavement on the Champlain Bridge, and replacing expansion joints, a project which is expected to last until Sept. 19.

Meanwhile the Bonaventure Expressway will be subject to several closures this weekend.

Eastbound traffic will be rerouted from Friday evening until Monday morning, while drivers who use the Bonaventure to head downtown will have to take a detour overnight Sunday.
