CEGEP teachers will not be taking the day off Friday, in spite of many of them voting in favour of holding a one-day strike in opposition to the Couillard Liberals' austerity program.
Quebec’s Labour Board announced Thursday that CEGEP teachers do not have the right to strike on May 1.
Four associations of the FEC teachers union and 26 associations of the FNEEQ, had voted in favour of the strike.
Hearings were held Wednesday to determine whether the strike should be permitted but the Labour Board noted that the proper steps, including an effort at mediation, had not been taken.
The Labour Board ruled that public service workers don’t automatically have the right to strike and that the students have a right to service from their teachers.
