An autopsy confirmed Thursday that an 82-year-old Sherbrooke woman was stabbed to death.

Rejeanne Pelletier-Charette was found by police Tuesday night after she disappeared from her home in Rock Forest, a suburb of Sherbrooke.

A 16-year-old boy was charged Tuesday with kidnapping, forcible confinement and possession of stolen property in connection with her disappearance.

The boyish-looking teenager nervously scanned the room as he appeared in youth court in Sherbrooke Thursday. No friends or relatives were present in the courtroom.

Despite the results of Pelletier-Charette's autopsy Thursday, the teen hasn't been charged with murder, explained prosecutor Genevieve Crepeau.

"For now, we're not filing new charges, he's still only charged with kidnapping and stealing the victim's car," said Crepeau.

Both the Crown and the prosecution have agreed to postpone the case until Monday. The teen is expected back in court on that day for a bail hearing for the theft and kidnapping charges. He could also be charged with murder at that time.

Surete du Quebec investigators continue to comb the area where Pelletier-Charette lived and was murdered to seek out more potential evidence in the case. Several crime-scene investigators looked through ditches and bushes in several areas of Rock Forest, the neighbourhood where the crime took place.

In particular, investigators are hunting for the murder weapon, which hasn't yet been found.
