MONTREAL - Forty young professionals - many of them lawyers - announced their support Sunday for François Legault and the Coalition for the Future of Quebec.

Several former members of other political parties, including former presidents of youth wings, have aligned with Legault, who has also been favoured in recent polls.

François Legault told the group of under-40s that Quebec needed new blood to evolve, telling them however that did not believe that group of 40 would become 40 electoral candidates.

"We'll have to wait to see if we become a party, but I think some of them will be interested," said Legault.

Political analysts expect the coalition to turns into a political party in November.

At the meeting of young people, Legault also backpedalled on his statement about the province's CEGEPs. Earlier this fall, as part of the tour with the CAQ, Legault argued that the Quebec education system should not include CEGEPs, as is the case elsewhere in Canada.

Sunday, he said the issue was not one he would attack head-on should he become leader of a political party. He did, however, reiterate his doubts about the relevance of an intermediate level between high school and university.
