Municipal authorities are threatening a woman with fines of $500 for placing posters of her lost cat around the neighbourhood.

Amanda Di Pancrazio of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve has been hunting high and low for her cat Gizmo, which left home three weeks ago.

She placed alerts on various internet sites but also posted 400 notices on public sites near her house.

The city has warned the woman that they will fine her if she fails to remove the posters.

Di Pancrazio says she'd rather pay the $500 penalty and then contest the ticket later.

When asked about the issue, lawyer Julius Grey told CTV Montreal that he believes that such a fine would not survive a constitutional challenge.
