A 43-year-old woman was struck and killed by a work vehicle in the Baron de Hirsch cemetery in Cote-des-Neiges Monday afternoon.
According to Urgences Sante, the woman was on a path in the cemetery near Mountain Sights Ave. and Sorel St. at about 4:15 p.m.
A truck was backing up into the cemetery for tree-cutting work when the woman was struck, said Montreal police Const. Daniel Lacoursiere.
She suffered severe head trauma and was declared dead at the scene by Urgences Sante techinicians, said Lacoursiere.
The woman’s mother, who was not with her at the time of the collision, but was also in the cemetery at the time, was treated in hospital for shock.
Collision techinicians were at the cemetery Monday evening to determine exactly how the accident occurred, because there were no witnesses to the event.
"There is video footage that might be looked at by collisions investigators at the entrance of the cemetery, so maybe that will help them understand a little more," said Montreal police spokesperson Anie Lemieux.
