Well-known Montreal restaurant proprietor Hong Hà Nguyen died suddenly Tuesday after blazing a culinary path with such restaurants as the HÀ on Mount Royal just east of Park.

Ha moved to Montreal from Vietnam in the 1980s and went on to open Ha Pho Viêt, Escale à Saigon, Les Bridés and Souvenirs d'Indochine which replaced the HA restaurant, an establishment he opened two decades earlier.

He was known well-known to inhabitants of the Plateau and often appeared on TV discussing Asian cuisine. He was 62.

Colleague and fellow chef Ross Louangsignotha described Ha as “My mentor, my big brother, my friend. I thank him for his wisdom, his advice, his infectious laugh and her unconditional love.”
