MONTREAL - A race-track worker at the Canadian Grand Prix is in critical condition following an accident shortly after the end of Sunday's Formula One event.
The Grand Prix's chief medical officer says the man was walking beside a crane as it moved a Sauber car that had gone off the track during the Montreal race.
Jacques Bouchard says the worker tripped and the fell in front of the crane's wheel as he was escorting the vehicle.
Bouchard says the crane operator couldn't see the man and drove over him.
He says a physician who happened to be nearby got to the injured worker in about 30 seconds.
Bouchard says trauma nurses stabilized the employee enough to have him airlifted to hospital by helicopter.
