Provincial police are investigating a suspicious death in Lavaltrie, about 50 km northeast of Montreal.

A maintenance employee discovered the body about 12:30 p.m. Friday at a roadside rest area.

The first police officers on the scene attempted to revive the man, but their efforts were fruitless.

The victim appears to be a 38-year-old man, and police are contacting his family. Police are only saying he does not appear to be a tourist, nor someone with a criminal record.

Police will not say if there are signs the man was the victim of an assault.

The body was found in the Point du Jour rest area, which was closed in August 2016 for renovations.

Public toilets in a now-closed restaurant are still functional, as are charging stations for electric vehicles, and the building is inspected and cleaned regularly.
