Police are still trying to figure out who drove a car so fast it flew across Highway 20 and crashed onto the train tracks.

The spectacular crash happened Monday afternoon when a car was speeding north on Neptune Rd. in Dorval.

The car went up the slight embankment that separates Herron Rd. from Highway 20, and witnesses said the car flew across six lanes of traffic -- three eastbound, three westbound -- before crashing and rolling onto the train tracks on the north side of the highway.

Witnesses said the driver crawled out of the wreckage as it caught fire, then ran off down the tracks.

It took several hours for police to examine the damage and confirm with witnesses that a driver had launched a car across the highway without striking any other vehicles.

Trains on the Vaudreuil-Hudson line were stopped until the wreckage of the car was removed several hours later.

Police believe this crash and another incident that happened a few hours later are connected.

In the second crash, the driver of an SUV smashed into the rear of an 18-wheeler, going so fast the entire front section of the car was wedged under the trailer.

The driver died at the scene.

Police are waiting for autopsy results to see if the driver was impaired.
