Montreal Alouette receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson wants to fill a void in the Montreal Canadiens’ squad, as the 36-year-old NFL legend has tweeted a desire to be an on-ice enforcer for the Canadiens against the Boston Bruins.

On Monday night Johnson tweeted to his 3.6 million Twitter followers that he wants to “suit up for the Habs so I can fight (Zdeno) Chara and (Milan) Lucic.”

The comment was retweeted by 2,700 followers and favourited 2,000 times.

Johnson later explained that he was inspired to thumb the tweet after playing the NHL15 video game on Xbox.

Johnson has proven to be a sporting Renaissance man, not only excelling in his lengthy NFL career but also getting to the finals in a TV dancing contest and trying his hand at rodeo.

The Habs play their first four games on the road (Toronto, Washington, Philadelphia, Tampa) before their home opener against the Bruins on Thursday October 16.

The Canadiens and Bruins have bad blood after the Habs upset the President’s Trophy-winning Bruins in the playoffs. Following the series, Boston forward Milan Lucic allegedly threatened Habs' forward Dale Weise while the two were shaking hands after the game.

The Canadiens currently have no player who specializes in fighting after forward George Parros was let go by the team, although a committee of players such as Weise, Travis Moen, Brandon Prust and Jarred Tinordi are expected to protect other players if fights break out.

It is unknown whether Johnson can skate.
