This Saturday people walking through NDG should expect to hear music everywhere they turn.

While it's common in the neighbourhood for musicians to open windows and practice, this will be the first organized mass concert.

More than 60 musicians and bands will be playing as part of Porchfest NDG, with concerts scheduled to begin every hour from noon until 4 p.m.

Musicians like Rob Lutes said the idea of playing on a front porch is ancient.

"Porches is where the music I play, roots music, blues, folk, Appalachian music, all played traditionally on porches," said Lutes

"When I grew up in New Brunswick we played on porches so it's actually a very natural setting for music."

People are being invited to walk or cycle around from show to show, then finally attend the closing concert and BBQ at 3560 Connaught Ave.

Proceeds from the BBQ go toward the NDG Food Depot, and the audience will also be able to donate non-perishable food as well.
