The McGill University Health Centre has a new leader, for now.

In a statement, the MUHC announced Martine Alfonso as its new interim president and executive director, effective as of Thursday.

According to the MUHC website, Alfonso worked as a physiotherapist for 14 years before joining management at the Institut de Readaption Gingras-Lindsay. In 2009, she was named the administrative director of the MUHC’s neuroscience mission and two years later was appointed interim director of the Montreal Neurological Hospital. She was later named associate director general of the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

In the statement, MUHC chairman Claudio Bussandri said Alfonso’s appointment will allow the board time to formulate strategic discussions that will inform the appointment of a permanent president.

In June, Normand Rinfret announced he would be retiring from the post.
