Montreal is putting 40 kilometres of busy streets under photo radar surveillance.

The city will also be placing photo radar cameras near several schools.

Montreal police have acquired one new van equipped with photo radar, along with two photo radar devices installed on trailers.

It will be up to police to decide where to install the photo radar devices each day among the four schools and several kilometres of city streets.

Police say warning signs will be posted whenever photo radar is active in a particular area.

As of Monday Nov. 7, photo radar may be installed outside four schools. They are:

  • St. Laurent high school, 2395 Thimens Blvd., St. Laurent
  • Marc Laflamme school, 555 19th Ave., RDP-PAT
  • Lucien Pagé high school, 8200 St. Laurent Blvd., Park Extension
  • Christ Roi elementary school, 525 Louvain Rd., Ahuntsic.

Mobile photo radar devices could be installed anywhere along 40 km of major thoroughfares around Montreal, with police saying they will start being active as of Monday Nov. 21.

It includes major streets that run across the downtown core of the city of Montreal, and just about from river to river.

  • Pie IX Blvd. from Notre Dame to Henri Bourassa Blvd.
  • St. Michel Blvd. from Saint Joseph Blvd. to Henri Bourassa Blvd.
  • Christophe Colomb Ave. from Rosemont Blvd. to Cremazie Blvd.
  • René Levesque Blvd. from Hope Ave. to Papineau Ave.
